Marking
CE Marking means that the product complies with European technical specifications and has been subject to appropriate conformity assessment procedures. It indicates that the product meets the claimed characteristics and can be placed in the EU market as long as it meets appropriate national regulations.
All glass to be used in buildings must be toughened in accordance with EN12150 and laminated in accordance with EN14449. This requires that initial type testing be carried out by a Notified Body, and if a claim is being made by the toughener that the glass has a safety rating then this must be tested to EN12600 (Impact test method and classification for flat glass, i.e. human impact safety, which replaces BS6206). When all requirements are met the glass manufacturer produces a Declaration of Conformity, he is now CE compliant.
It is not mandatory in Ireland to put the CE symbol on the product label or supporting documentation. However, Ireland is still bound by CPD mandate M135 to comply with the requirements of the relevant published standards (i.e. EN12150, EN12600, EN14449), and all other information must be available, such as the relevant permanent stamp on the glass and the corresponding supporting documentation. Tipperary Glass labels showing performance classifications can be found below for the various thicknesses of glass using the pull down menus.
